Did you know? This dress code is worn for many different social functions. The term Black Tie for a man would include a tuxedo which is black and for women includes an evening gown, long or short. The black tie dress code dates back to the 1860's when the Prince of Wales asked for a smoking jacket to be made for informal dinner parties that he would be attending. This is the alternative to the White Tie dress code that was considered the standard of the time.
